The world’s first AI law appeared in South Korea

South Korea became the first country to adopt a comprehensive “Basic AI Act.” It establishes rules for critical sectors such as healthcare and transportation, and provides for fines for violations, such as failing to label AI-generated content. A grace period of at least one year is provided to allow businesses to adapt.

Nevertheless, local startups express concern, believing that unclear wording of the law may slow innovation and force companies into excessive caution. Authorities state their intention to support the industry by launching a consultation platform.

The country’s president called for providing technology companies with the necessary support to unlock the industry’s potential while managing possible risks.
