ZeniMax Filed an Application for a New Quake Trademark — Bureaucracy or a Hint at a Reboot?

The holding company ZeniMax (parent of Bethesda and id Software) has filed an application to register a new trademark for QUAKE. This isn’t merely a tweak to old paperwork; the filing reads like a fresh claim over software and related digital material — FYI, it names everything from programs to manuals and online publications.

In June 2026 the original Quake turns 30. Could that anniversary be the excuse for a reboot? One can imagine the timing is convenient; one can also shrug and say, “maybe not.” Bethesda has already hinted that QuakeCon 2026 will focus on the series, which only adds to the speculation — personally, I’m curious rather than convinced.

Skeptics point out the mundane alternative: trademarks often need attention every decade. Quake Champions showed up in registries roughly ten years ago, so this could be routine maintenance rather than a signal of new development. Also, id Software is tied up with updates and the DOOM: The Dark Ages DLC, so a full-scale relaunch right now would be a stretch, IMO.
