Windows 11 Gets Built-In Internet Speed Test — Right from the Taskbar

Microsoft has introduced a new practical feature in Windows 11: users can now quickly check their internet connection speed without resorting to third-party services. The tool is integrated directly into the taskbar and is already available in the latest builds of the operating system — 26100.7918 and 26200.7918 (update KB5077241).

The test can be launched in several convenient ways. You can either use the quick settings for Wi-Fi or mobile network, or right-click on the network icon in the system tray. After that, a speed test page will open in your default browser.

The tool can measure bandwidth for three types of connections — Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and mobile network. Developers expect that the feature will simplify network troubleshooting and allow users to quickly assess connection quality.

According to available information, the test redirects to the Bing speed test service. While the convenience of this solution compared to a regular browser bookmark remains a topic of debate, the feature could be especially useful for owners of new computers or freshly installed systems.

Currently, the tool is operating in preview mode, but it will become available to all Windows 11 users in the near future.
