BitCraft MMORPG Developers Release Part of the Source Code to the Public

Clockwork Labs has initiated the process of open-sourcing the code for its MMORPG BitCraft. The first phase of the release, already published on GitHub, allows developers and technically savvy enthusiasts to run their own game servers, including its logic, state management, and server systems.

According to the official announcement, the code can be freely studied, modified for local use, or used as a foundation for one's own projects, including creating similar games — provided the original assets are used. However, the code does not provide access to the official BitCraft servers and does not include the game client.

This is only the first stage of opening up the project. In future phases, the developer plans to publish code for systems such as inter-module communication, world generation, and artificial intelligence. The full source code will be released over three to four phases, although exact timelines have not been announced yet.

The main goal of the initiative is to ensure transparency and provide the community with a powerful learning tool. As stated by Clockwork Labs, open-sourcing BitCraft's code should make developing MMORPGs on their SpacetimeDB database more accessible for independent creators.
