Underrated Marvel game available for free on PS Plus
Underrated Marvel game available for free on PS Plus.
Over the last ten years, Marvel's output in games has been reliable without often reaching the very top. Genuine misfires have been uncommon — Marvel's Avengers from 2020 stands out as the only real letdown, and even it wasn't outright terrible. Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, which arrived in 2017, also let players down. Alongside those, there were successes such as Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel Rivals.
Only one Marvel title in that span delivered a truly standout story: Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Developed by Eidos Montreal, the studio behind Deus Ex, the action-adventure game earned widespread acclaim, largely for its narrative. It took home the best narrative award at The Game Awards in its launch year — an achievement partly credited to lead writer Mary DeMarle, whose previous work includes Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.
PlayStation Plus subscribers are delighted with the game
Even among Marvel fans, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy tends to be overlooked. Reddit, however, has given it its due. One commenter wrote:
I completely agree about the engaging dialogue and character interaction, one of the best games in that regard that I have played recently.
Right now, anyone on PS4 or PS5 with a PS Plus Extra or Premium subscription can play it at no extra cost. A playthrough runs roughly 15-17 hours. The combat can wear thin over that stretch, but the story holds up. Since the game has been in the catalog since June 2022, it could be pulled soon — so those curious shouldn't wait.
