Ubisoft Union Representatives Complain About Promotion of "White Men" in Leadership

Yves Guillemot has been called many unflattering names recently: developers were even urged to demonstratively leave the Paris office at the sight of the head of Ubisoft. Now, two employees of Ubisoft Paris from the Solidaires Informatique union have stated that the company can only regain the trust of its subordinates after a change in leadership and the departure of Guillemot.

According to the union:

  • Six games have been canceled;
  • layoffs have occurred in the studios;
  • some teams have been completely shut down;
  • about 2400 more employees are at risk of dismissal;
  • the remaining "lucky ones" will have to return to a five-day workweek.

One of the union employees complains that "cronyism" is flourishing at Ubisoft. Leadership positions are being given to "white men" from among those close to Yves Guillemot. This allegedly negatively impacts creativity: the generation of ideas and opinions for future games.

According to the union developers from Ubisoft Paris, Ubisoft has only one path to survival — hiring "fresh minds" who are willing to lead honestly and be accountable for their actions. The "Parisians" are urging their colleagues from other studios to follow their example and defend their rights through unions.

Ubisoft employees have also drawn attention to the acute problem of returning to offices after several years of remote work. Many began their career advancement precisely during "remote work," or have since moved and bought new homes. In the case of Ubisoft Paris, not every developer can afford to live in Paris.
