Ubisoft Reveals Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced — Game Launches on July 9
Ubisoft has pulled back the curtain on Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced. The remaster—coming July 9—returns to Edward Kenway’s story, thirteen years after the first release. Expect the familiar voyage, but with a clear technical push and a handful of new features layered on top.
Development is spearheaded by Ubisoft Singapore, with veterans from the original team contributing. The narrative still follows Kenway as he drifts from privateer life toward the Brotherhood while Templar lines tighten. You’ll captain the "Jackdaw" again and roam the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy.
Where this version really diverges is under the hood. Resynced runs on an updated Anvil engine (the same base used in Assassin’s Creed Shadows). Lighting was reworked, ray tracing added, models rebuilt, and the water system got a major overhaul—storms and sea state now alter visuals and combat behavior in ways that actually feel different.

Combat has been touched in several ways: there are new finishers, parry timing feels tighter, and pistols/darts chain into quicker exchanges than before. A new enemy archetype—labelled "demolitionist"—adds unpredictable moments to skirmishes. Stealth is less constrained now; Edward can crouch nearly anywhere, melt into shadows, and dive from more spots. Lighting now plays a role in how visible he is, which makes sneaking less predictable.
Naval encounters got attention, too. Additional weapon types appear on both sides, and enemy ships vary more in loadout. The fleet mechanic has been reworked so captured vessels can contribute resources through trade and side missions rather than just serving as trophies.
The team didn’t stop with system tweaks. You can recruit officers for unique perks on the "Jackdaw," take on new quests, and tweak the ship’s appearance and kit. There’s even a shipboard pet option—cats or monkeys—for players who want that small, ridiculous touch. Fans of the sea songs will be pleased: many of the original shanties return and roughly a dozen fresh ones are in the mix.
Movement received particular focus. Parkour flows more quickly; jumps can be launched from more positions, wall push-offs work in more directions, and transitions between actions are noticeably smoother.
Composer Woodkid is back on the franchise after a long gap. If that rings a bell, it’s because his 2011 track "Iron" defined the mood of the Assassin’s Creed Revelations trailer — yes, that same piece you might remember from the famous trailer.
