Star Trek Online Announces Major New Update "Corruption"
Amidst the 16th-anniversary celebrations and news of the former Cryptic CEO's return, the Star Trek Online team has announced a new major content update titled Corruption. This update includes a new episode, a ground task force option, and an event dedicated to the universe's newest enemies.
The new episode once again focuses on the Chimeras, the galaxy's recent foes. Players will join the MIDAS communication system and Captain Ezri Dax to suppress a new invasion. It appears players will battle threats in space, confronting "waves of psionic rays" while advancing through a "dangerously infested environment."
In addition to the episode, two new missions will be introduced. One of the ground task force operations, called Belly of the Beast, involves fighting the Chimeras using the MIDAS communication system until reinforcements arrive. This threat also persists in a new event where players will directly confront the Chimera menace across the galaxy.
Star Trek Online's 35th season launches on February 17th for PC players, followed by March 10th for console versions on PlayStation and Xbox.
Thomas Marrone, previously the art director for Star Trek Online, has become the executive producer, focusing on "maintaining fidelity to the Star Trek universe and collaborating with the community to ensure the game's longevity for years to come."
