Wizards of the Coast Returns to the Fallout Universe with New Magic: The Gathering Cards

Two years ago, Wizards of the Coast released a themed expansion for Magic: The Gathering based on the Fallout universe — and it turned out to be quite successful. Although the set included characters and events from the game series, it was launched a month before the premiere of the popular TV series, so actors from the show were not featured in it. This situation will be corrected by the end of the current month.

Wizards of the Coast has announced the release of four installments in the "Secret Lair" series, once again dedicated to the world of Fallout. One of these will be entirely devoted to the stars of the TV series. In this installment, players will see cards featuring key characters from the show — Ghoul, Maximus, and Lucy. Moreover, Lucy will not only have a personal card but will also appear on two others: on Spirit Mantle she is depicted leaving the Super Duper Mart in power armor from the vault, and on Pre-War Formalwear — amidst the chaos of a cornfield on the night of her wedding. Maximus will also appear twice; besides his personal card, his image is used on the T-60 Power Armor card.

In addition to references to the series, fans will find a selection of five cards inspired by Fallout: New Vegas. These include Benny, Joshua Graham, The Platinum Chip, The Custom Caravan Deck, and the Sunset Sarsaparilla Vending Machine. As often happens in the Secret Lair series, the developers have opted to reinterpret existing cards while preserving their mechanics. For example, the Sunset Sarsaparilla Vending Machine functions similarly to the Nuka-Cola vending machine from the main Fallout set: it produces food tokens that can be converted into treasures.

Among other new additions is the return of Dogmeat in five new cards. One is particularly noteworthy: a Sol Ring analog, designed as a dog bowl filled with water. Furthermore, the Rad Secret Lair release will include cards themed around mutants and mutations, including The Wise Mothman.

All these novelties will be part of the Rad Superdrop, scheduled for release on January 26.
