American studio Wildlight, founded by Respawn alumni, is hiding the source of funding for Highguard and evading direct questions on the topic, but all secrets eventually come to light. According to sources from Game File, the entire four-year development cycle was bankrolled by the ubiquitous Chinese giant Tencent through its subsidiary TiMi Studio Group, which actively invests in projects and studios worldwide. The budget for this fiasco remains undisclosed.

To recap, the team-based raid shooter launched with almost no marketing just a month and a half after its announcement and instantly lost its entire audience. Wildlight itself has since gone radio silent.
