There were layoffs at Ubisoft Barcelona, and Ubisoft Belgrade was closed — media
Recent layoffs at Ubisoft hit more than Canadian Ubisoft Winnipeg. Spain saw cuts too — dismissals also occurred at the studio in Ubisoft Barcelona, where a company letter says 51 specialists are affected. The Barcelona team will now concentrate solely on the Rainbow Six line, with a clear priority on Rainbow Six Siege.
Insider Gaming reports that Ubisoft has closed its Belgrade studio; ≈100 people will be let go. That branch, opened in 2016, supported main development teams on Ghost Recon Wildlands and Breakpoint, The Crew 2, Rainbow Six, and Skull & Bones — it started out with just 10 devs.
Updated: dozens of employees were also laid off from Ubisoft San Francisco. At the same time, according to Insider Gaming sources, about 12% of Ubisoft Montreal employees working on Rainbow Six Siege will be moved off the shooter. Additionally, roughly 50 specialists were reassigned from Rainbow Six Siege Mobile and an unannounced project to other work.
This wave has been rolling since January, when Ubisoft announced a broad reorg and canceled several projects, including the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It's a rough patch for many teams and individuals — HR figures, internal memos, and shifting assignments keep trickling out.
