No GOST for Video Games in Russia Yet
According to TASS news agency, the head of Rosstandart (the Federal Agency for Technical Regulation and Metrology), Anton Shalaev, has refuted information about the development of a state standard (GOST) for video games. In his statement, he emphasized that such a GOST is not being developed and is not planned for introduction.
Shalaev explained that the agency had indeed discussed the possibility of creating a video game classification system, similar to the one that exists for regular toys. However, this discussion pertains exclusively to potential criteria for categorization, not to any regulation of games as digital content. According to him, this issue remains under discussion, and at the moment, such a separate classification standard also does not exist.
The rumors were sparked by statements from a Rosstandart representative in October 2025 about work on a GOST concerning the classification of computer games and toys. As has now been clarified, this work does not imply the creation of a standard for the video games themselves.
