Ubisoft Continues Development of Beyond Good and Evil 2 Despite Years of Challenges
Ubisoft recently announced the delay and cancellation of several game projects, including the long-awaited remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. However, among the canceled games, Beyond Good and Evil 2 was not present—a project whose development has stretched over many years and is accompanied by persistent rumors of problems.
In an interview with Eurogamer, a Ubisoft representative explained why the studio continues to work on Beyond Good and Evil 2. According to them, the company's leadership views the game as a unique offering in the market of open-world adventure projects. Ubisoft is convinced that the modern gaming industry lacks high-quality fantasy games, and Beyond Good and Evil 2 is intended to fill this niche.
Meanwhile, according to well-known insider Tom Henderson, the development costs for the game have already approached $500 million. The expert believes that by the time of release, this amount will inevitably increase, making Beyond Good and Evil 2 one of the most expensive projects in Ubisoft's history. At the same time, the game still has neither an exact release date nor even an estimated year of release.
The years-long development, growing budgets, and lack of clear deadlines evoke mixed feelings among fans: on one hand—hope for an ambitious and high-quality product; on the other—fears that the project may never reach release.
