Stop Killing Games Initiative Gathers Nearly 1.3 Million Verified Signatures
The Stop Killing Games initiative has officially passed the required threshold and moved to the next stage of consideration. The organizers confirmed that by the time the collection closed at the end of July 2025, they had managed to gather 1,294,188 verified signatures — more than enough to continue the process at the European Union level.
The final numbers were reported by Moritz Katzner. According to him, the verification process went faster than expected, so the team decided to publish the results ahead of schedule. Although some of the more than 1.4 million signatures did not pass validation, the final number still confidently exceeded the minimum threshold of one million.

The initiative received the most support in Germany — 233,180 signatures were confirmed there. Gamers from France, Poland, and Spain also showed high activity, gathering 145,289, 143,826, and 121,616 signatures respectively.
The main figurehead of Stop Killing Games, Ross Scott, stated that the next step is the official submission of the initiative to the European Commission in Brussels. According to him, this should happen closer to the end of February. He also hinted that the campaign has other positive news, but it's too early to reveal it yet.
To recap, the initiative calls for making it mandatory for publishers to leave games in a functional state after ending support. It's not about transferring rights or obligations for further maintenance, but about banning the remote shutdown of purchased or licensed projects without the ability to continue playing without the publisher's involvement.
