The screenwriter of "Mortal Kombat 2" named the character he cut from the film

The sequel "Mortal Kombat 2" (Mortal Kombat II) almost included a ninja earth elemental, but the idea was ultimately dropped. Screenwriter Jeremy Slater ("Umbrella Academy") told GamesRadar+ that Tremor — the brown, rock-powered fighter — was in the conversation but didn’t survive the script cuts.

"...I nearly put Tremor into a fight with Sonya — I’ve always dug the character and his powers felt cool — but I couldn’t give him the time he needed to feel like a person," Slater said.

That slot went to Sindel, Kitana’s mother, who in the story ends up brainwashed by Shao Kahn. Tremor, for fans’ reference, tended to show up in the games as DLC; he only became a fully playable fighter in Mortal Kombat X, e.g., via an additional content pack.

The sequel’s cast includes Karl Urban ("The Boys"), Tati Gabrielle ("You"), Martin Ford ("The House of David"), Hiroyuki Sanada ("John Wick 4"), Lewis Tan ("Mike and Nik and Nik and Alice"), Jessica McNamee ("The Oath"), Adeline Rudolph ("Chilling Adventures of Sabrina"), and others.

The film opened wide on May 8.
