The release of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 is delayed – the developers have postponed the launch date for optimization and fixes
The long-awaited comeback of the cult strategy series set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe—Dawn of War 4—was supposed to land next month. Fans were getting ready for early-September clashes, then KING Art Games changed course. In an official message, game director Jan Taisen moved the release: the launch is now scheduled for December 3, 2026.
Taisen explained the decision in a short video. He didn’t paint it as an easy call; the team feels extra time is necessary and stands by that choice. He also pointed to the playtest response as a major factor—players have been vocal, and the studio says that feedback confirmed they’re on the right track.
We know from your feedback that the game feels right, and we managed to capture the very essence that makes the Dawn of War series special.
Why delay? Plainly: more polish. Taisen was frank — the studio needs the months ahead to integrate player notes, smash bugs, and squeeze out the last bits of performance (e.g., optimization passes, stability fixes, UI tweaks). In short, it’s about finishing touches rather than adding new systems.
We strive to release a game that fully meets both our ambitions and your high expectations. We must be sure that every player gets a perfect experience from day one — added Jan Taisen.
To make the wait less empty, KING Art promises regular content drops in the run-up: gameplay breakdowns, behind-the-scenes looks, and new Battlefield Reports broadcasts. Whether a three-month slip is acceptable will depend on you — some will welcome the extra care, others will grumble at the calendar shift. I get both reactions; impatience is human, but so is wanting a product that doesn't feel rushed.
