Bubsy 4D Release Scheduled for May 22nd
Some franchises simply refuse to die. Despite the terrible reputation of Bubsy 3D, Bubsy himself not only didn't perish but, on the contrary, gained popularity, which led to the revival of the series in 2017 with the release of Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back. Last summer, this lynx made itself known again with the announcement of the platformer Bubsy 4D, which today received a release date — May 22nd.
Bubsy 4D is being developed by the creators of the "Praiseworthy" Demon Turf from the New York studio Fabraz. The standard digital version is priced at $19.99. Simultaneously, pre-orders for a collector's physical edition for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 have opened on the publisher Atari's website, selling for $39.99 and $49.99 respectively. The collector's edition includes a softcover artbook, a double-sided poster, and a 24-page booklet.
In the upcoming game, Bubsy must embark on an intergalactic adventure to retrieve his main treasure — the Golden Fleece, which has been stolen by evolved sheep. The developers highlighted the following key features of the title:
- Diverse planets with their own bosses.
- A new form for the protagonist as a ball of wool.
- Additional costumes, moves, and upgrades.
- Time trials with a leaderboard.
- The return of familiar characters, including Terry, Terri, Virgil, and Oblivia.
- A soundtrack by Fat Bard with elements of jazz, big band, electro-swing, and other genres.
Bubsy 4D is being developed for PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store), PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch. Currently, only English is listed among the supported languages. Gamers are free to try a demo version before purchasing.
