PS5 Turned into a PC with Linux — Console Runs GTA V at Better Quality Than Factory Settings

Enthusiast and security specialist Andy Nguyen has once again chipped away at system lock-in. As a dev and hacker, he ported a full Linux build to the PS5 — effectively making the console behave like a PC.

To prove it wasn't just a toy project, he posted footage of GTA V Enhanced Edition running natively at 1440p, 60 fps, with RT switched on — and at visual settings that surpass the stock PS5 release. The clip is terse but convincing: native rendering, smooth frame pacing, the usual in-game effects present.

The mod looks fairly stable so far. USB ports function, audio works, and the HDMI output handles 4K video. Nguyen also tinkered with hw frequencies: his current build runs the CPU at 3.2 GHz and the GPU at 2.0 GHz. In theory the SoC can hit the standard 3.5 GHz / 2.23 GHz, but on the PS5 "Slim" used for testing that pushed temps into dangerous territory. Compact hw, limited cooling — no surprise that the small chassis needs cooling tweaks before any safe overclocking.
