Next Xbox in 2027? Lisa Su says console chip will be ready next year
During the latest earnings report, AMD CEO Lisa Su made a significant statement that effectively set a timeline for Microsoft's next generation of consoles. According to her, the development of a specialized processor (semi-custom SoC) for the new Xbox is in full swing and is targeting a release (of the chip, not the console) in 2027.
The chip is expected to be based on a processor with the Zen 6 architecture and a graphics core with the RDNA 5/UDNA architecture. This will provide a colossal leap in performance compared to the current Xbox Series X/S series.
Despite Lisa Su's optimism, analysts point to a serious obstacle — memory cost. To realize Microsoft's ambitions, up to 36 GB of GDDR7 memory may be required, the price of which in 2026 remains at a record high. This could make the new Xbox a "premium" and very expensive device, or force the company to delay the release until the market stabilizes.
