Creator of DayZ and Icarus: "Stop Making a Fuss About Every Game Delay, It's Normal in the Industry"
Dean Hall, creator of DayZ, called on players to support release delays in order to break the culture of "deadline obsession." The reason was the postponement of the console version of his game Icarus from February 26 to March 26 for additional polishing.
Hall believes that developers are too afraid of delays due to financial pressure and fear of audience reaction. It is the players who can change this by letting platform holders know that delays are acceptable if they improve quality.
At his studio RocketWerkz, they hold "go/no-go meetings" before launch, where they honestly evaluate the game. Hall urged colleagues to be open with the community and to avoid "corporate doublespeak" when explaining the reasons for delays.
