Shonen Jump Disqualifies AI-Generated Manga After It Tops Newcomer Ranking

Shueisha, the publisher of renowned manga magazines like Weekly Shonen Jump, recently disqualified an entry from a contest on its Jump Rookie platform because it was created using artificial intelligence.

Jump Rookie is a platform open to anyone wishing to publish their work. A monthly contest is held where the most popular aspiring authors get the chance to officially publish their manga on Shueisha's main digital comics platform, Jump+.

The contest is essentially a popularity vote, with the winner being the manga with the highest number of views on its latest three chapters.

In the February 2026 round of the contest, a manga titled NTR Kaeshi climbed to the top of the ranking, amassing over 15,700 views by February 1st. The romantic comedy, focusing on the theme of "infidelity," uploaded by Fukashigi-chan, uses images generated by artificial intelligence, as stated in the author's personal account.

Although NTR Kaeshi briefly came close to being published in Jump+, Shueisha disqualified it from the contest on February 11th. As the author reported, they received an email from Jump Rookie staff notifying them that Jump+ does not permit the publication of AI-generated manga, which meant their entry was voided.

While the existing chapters of NTR Kaeshi remain available on the platform, the series has been canceled.
