Modular Pocket Computer Mecha Comet Raises Nearly $600,000 on Kickstarter
A crowdfunding campaign for the portable modular computer Mecha Comet has successfully launched on the Kickstarter platform. The developers from Mecha Systems planned to raise $50,000 but have already gathered an impressive sum of $588,639, which is more than 11 times the initial goal.
Mecha Comet is a compact device with a 3.92-inch AMOLED display, running on the Mechanix OS (based on Linux 6.12). The gadget's main feature is its magnetic module attachment system: users can easily connect a keyboard, gamepad, and other peripherals as needed.
Inside the case are:
- Processor options: NXP i.MX 8M Plus or I.MX 95;
- RAM: 2 GB / 4 GB / 8 GB;
- Internal storage: 32 GB / 128 GB eMMC;
- Slots for microSD and NVMe SSD;
- 8 MP camera;
- Wireless modules: WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4;
- Ports: USB-C and a 3.5 mm audio jack;
- Speaker with HD audio support;
- 4100 mAh battery.
The developers have offered several pre-order options:
- The model with an i.MX 8M Plus processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal storage is priced at $189. Delivery is scheduled for June 2026.
- The version with an I.MX 95 processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of storage will cost $269. Shipping is set to begin in September 2026.
Thanks to its compact size and modular design, the Mecha Comet is suitable not only for retro gaming but also for other use cases—from a mobile office to a multimedia player.
The success of the Kickstarter campaign shows that interest in unconventional portable solutions remains high, and users value the ability to customize and expand their devices.
