The Legendary Anime "Astro Boy" to Receive a Film Adaptation
Atom—built from a scientist's grief and modeled on a futuristic spin of Pinocchio—doesn't stay a private experiment for long. Rejected, sold off to a circus, then plucked from that life by Professor Ochanomizu, he grows into a figure whose abilities pull him into conflicts on an international scale; the story juggles wonder, danger, and the occasional moral wobble (e.g., what counts as "human" when a machine feels loss).
Sony Pictures has handed the new adaptation to Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, the pair behind the recent Ghostbusters reboot. Reitman (4x Oscar-nom.) is attached as a producer and could step into the director's role too — which is to say, this might be more of a reinvention than a straight homage, depending on how they steer tone and spectacle.
