The iconic phrase "War, war never changes" from Fallout earned Ron Perlman 40 bucks and a sandwich.
The legendary opening line "War... War never changes" is voiced by a talent purchased for 40 dollars and a sandwich. Hollywood actor Ron Perlman, whose voiceover became the hallmark of Fallout, admitted in a podcast that he initially approached the project with complete indifference. His involvement in the very first game in the 90s was almost accidental.
"They paid me 40 dollars and gave me a sandwich," recalls Perlman. A year and a half later, the studio called him about a sequel, to which the actor only asked in surprise: "Why?" He was then told that the first part had unexpectedly sold a hundred thousand copies and become a cult classic.
Despite years of collaboration, Perlman has never played Fallout and does not consider himself part of the gaming industry. He simply recorded the lines, got paid, and left. The scale of the phenomenon into which he inadvertently etched his name remains a mystery to him to this day.
