200 People or 18% of Staff Request Voluntary Departure from Ubisoft's Paris Headquarters
In an effort to cut costs, Ubisoft is not only laying off developers worldwide (or worse, forcing them to work from offices instead of from home): some cozy positions at the company's Paris headquarters will also be lost.
Ubisoft Cancels Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake and 5 Other Games, Delays 7 Projects, Closes 2 Studios, and Ends Remote Work
Currently, Ubisoft International employees have been offered a voluntary redundancy program (at Massive, layoffs still occurred after such an initiative), the terms of which, under local law, are being negotiated with unions that are already dissatisfied with the company. The collective agreement must also be approved by the French authorities. The plan is to shed 200 employees or 18% of the workforce.
After the shake-up, the headquarters will oversee five creative houses and handle strategy, finance, talent management, and support a "forward-looking perspective on industry trends, including technological developments and market innovations."
Returning to the unions, Ubisoft has already been accused of all mortal sins: ending remote work is a "disguised redundancy plan aimed at pushing employees out of the company," while "the reorganization creates a number of high-level positions with excessively high salaries."
