Half-Life's Diffusion Mod Receives Major Update with Actor Voiceovers and Weapon Balancing

Modder Aynekko has released a major 1.1 update for his Diffusion mod—one of the most ambitious mods that completely overhauls the Half-Life engine. The project was initially created to push GoldSource to its absolute limits, and the new patch brings it significantly closer to that goal.

One of the key changes is the complete replacement of AI-generated voiceovers with lines recorded by real actors. This decision will surely be appreciated by players tired of synthetic voices in mods.

In addition, the update affected weapon balance and enemy behavior: the AI now employs more varied tactics, bugs were fixed, specific encounters were reworked, and new enemies were added, making the game noticeably more challenging.

The patch also includes visual improvements: new 3D models for some scientists, fresh decals, and additional object models. Bunnyhopping is now disabled by default but can be re-enabled via a console command. The vehicle camera now allows free first-person rotation, and in third-person mode, the distance can be adjusted using the mouse wheel.

In total, Diffusion 1.1 contains over 100 changes and fixes. The mod installs as a standalone project for Half-Life via the Steam folder and appears in the library after restarting the client.
