The film "The Mandalorian and Grogu" debuted in home release with $30 million

The film “Mandalorian and Grogu” (Mandalorian and Grogu) has grossed around $33 million from previews and the first day of release. Early weekend estimates put the western at est. $91–96 million over the four-day US holiday stretch; a few analysts push that up toward $100 million. Some forecasts had even been bolder, with an earlier prediction of $160 million worldwide for opening weekend (source). Prod. cost is reported at $165 million.

The action is set after season three of “The Mandalorian”. Din Djarin and his charge Grogu are front and center — on a mission that the film treats as consequential. The cast features Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”), Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”), Sigourney Weaver (“Alien”), among others. Dir. & co-writer: Jon Favreau. Guillermo del Toro helped with 3D models for the Hutts.

Critical reaction has been muted rather than ecstatic — reviewers mostly reserved, some unconvinced. Rotten Tomatoes currently lists 64% “freshness” (link).
