The Failed Action Game 1348 Ex Voto Was Funded by the Italian Government: It’s “Cultural Heritage”
A SMASH JT reporter dug up public records showing that the controversial title 1348 Ex Voto received taxpayer support.
According to those documents, Sedleo SRL received tax relief totaling more than €650k and an extra €6k in direct grants from the Italian Min. of Culture between 2021–2024. In U.S. currency that comes to over $745k.
On paper the project carries the label "work of cultural value" — a designation that lets the gov. treat it as media reflecting Italian heritage rather than as a purely private commercial effort.
Some critics read politics into the content: the medieval storyline, with its focus on relationships between women, is blamed by detractors for pushing an agenda paid for by the state. The debate hasn’t calmed down.
