The "Expendables" Are Back: Canceled Female Spinoff Expendabelles Officially Back in Development
Apparently, there was an urgent need to launder a lot of money on an obviously doomed film
Ten years after getting stuck in production limbo, the long-canceled female spinoff of The Expendables — known as Expendabelles — has been dug up and put back into development. Eclectic Pictures and Hollywood Ventures Group are running the revival, with Lionsgate listed as a backer.
They've ripped up the old plan and retooled it as a prequel. Think late-1990s vibes, Y2K jitters and messy geopolitics (esp. the sort that fuels action-movie paranoia). Rather than a direct spin-off, the pitch now reads like a standalone origin tale about a new crop of elite mercs. FYI, producers are actively searching for a director and cast, so expect more updates — and probably some eyebrow-raising casting choices — as it comes together.
