The Elder Scrolls Online Developers Discuss Work on Dragonknight and Two-Handed Weapon Changes
The The Elder Scrolls Online team has detailed the extensive changes coming to the Dragonknight and Two-Handed weapon skill lines in Update 49, scheduled for release on March 9th.
Since the decision was made to overhaul all classes, their signature skill lines also required refinement. Several developers share their insights in a new blog post about the decision-making process and all stages of work on this major update.
Their primary goal was to "revisit the look and feel of the skill lines and reduce the feeling of 'instability' in combat, combined with planned balance changes."
Firstly, they needed to ensure that the Dragonknight and Two-Handed weapon skill lines felt appropriate, "consciously striving for raw physical power." The developers wanted to keep them familiar while also making their animations powerful and satisfying, ensuring they align with the concept of strength and class identity that the ESO team is working towards for the complete overhaul.
Significant changes to ability animations, visual effects, and sound are expected, including entirely new work on audio and visual effects. Each Dragonknight skill line has its own distinct sound design style. Furthermore, recent updates have introduced new and more modern sounds to the game, so part of this update is about maintaining a fresh feel.
The animation and sound design teams are collaborating to create various sound design styles and visual effects, utilizing technologies that were not available at the game's launch.
