The Division: Definitive Edition is Out on Consoles — No Improvements, Costs $50

Ubisoft quietly released Tom Clancy’s The Division: Definitive Edition without any significant promotional fanfare or prior announcements, immediately causing confusion among gamers. Today, the re-release appeared in digital stores on Sony and Microsoft platforms for $50. However, it does not offer any noticeable improvements compared to the already existing versions.

Typically, a Definitive Edition implies not just a complete content package but also technical refinements: improved graphics, higher resolution, upgrades for the new generation of consoles. This is not the case with The Division. The game does not have a separate version for Xbox Series or PlayStation 5 — it can be played on modern consoles but without any noticeable enhancements.

According to the store descriptions, the edition includes the base game, all three expansions from the season pass, and several cosmetic sets. That's where the list of differences ends. The developers did not add any graphical tweaks or gameplay changes. At best, players can expect standard image scaling due to more powerful hardware.

In essence, Ubisoft is selling the already familiar Gold Edition with a couple of extra outfits, but for $50 and under a new name. This is likely why the release went almost unnoticed and without an advertising campaign — there's simply nothing to promote here.

A re-release of the original The Division could have been a great entry point for newcomers and a way for old fans to return to the game. But instead, the French company has found yet another way to disappoint gamers.

It's worth noting that the release of such a "Definitive Edition" of the original "Division" is not Ubisoft's first controversial decision lately. In January, the company canceled the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and several other projects, causing the corporation's stock to fall once again.
