World of Warcraft Creators Plan to Add More Customization Options for Old Races

The developers of World of Warcraft have shared their plans for developing the personalization system. In an interview with WindowsCentral, Design Director Maria Hamilton and Lead Artist Jay Hwang stated that in the long term, they would like to add a universal system for customizing character appearance, animations, and visual effects.

The studio is aware of players' desire to see more decorative items and housing in the style of different races. Work on this is already underway, and players won't have to wait for years, as was the case with heritage armor.

Regarding appearance options for old races, the approach is changing. Instead of piecemeal additions, the developers plan to tackle this issue on a larger scale—as a separate project that will affect not only new customization options but also character animations. However, this is a matter for the distant future.

Currently, the game has many disparate systems affecting character visuals and sounds: abilities, toys, glyphs. They overlap, duplicate, and confuse players. The developers want to combine them into a single system where players can customize appearance, effects, and even animations in one place. This is also still just a plan for the future.

Overall, the creators aim to give players more opportunities for self-expression—whether through housing decoration or character appearance. This aspect is becoming increasingly important for the game.
