Blizzard Plans to Adapt All Key Franchises for Screen
Blizzard Entertainment intends to expand its universes beyond video games. Studio head Johanna Faries stated in an interview with Variety that the company is actively negotiating the creation of film and television adaptations of its largest franchises — Warcraft, Diablo, Overwatch, and Hearthstone.
"We want to be on every conceivable screen," she emphasized.
According to Faries, negotiations are proceeding in several directions simultaneously — formats and potential development teams capable of high-quality adaptations of the game worlds to screen are being discussed. She expressed confidence that each of the studio's IPs has the potential to become "one of the greatest linear media experiences in the world."
There are no specific announcements yet, but Faries hinted that surprises could be presented at BlizzCon in September. In its 35th anniversary year, Blizzard is clearly preparing for a major expansion.
