Screenwriter and director Peter Gould is at work on a new series called Disinherited. The pilot is already in the can; no premiere date has been announced yet — seems to be one of those low-key starts.

The lead roles in the pilot go to Victoria Pedretti (of The Haunting of Hill House) and Kira Allen (from The Good Doctor).

The story centers on two sisters who inherit a sudden fortune. Money changes things, obviously, but it also drags up long-buried family secrets, old crimes, and relatives who start poking into their lives — i.e., the windfall is less a solution than a trigger for unrest.

Also on the cast are Karl Glusman, Alan Ruck, Katja Herbers, Eddie Marsan, and Jonathan Higginbotham, a group that mixes familiar faces with slightly unexpected choices.

Gould is best known as the co-creator and showrunner of Better Call Saul, a series that earned critical praise and multiple Emmy Awards. This marks his return to TV; there’s curiosity — and a little skepticism — about whether Disinherited will echo his past work or head somewhere new.
