Anbernic Introduces Two New Portable Consoles — RG VITA and RG VITA Pro
Anbernic has announced the release of two portable gaming consoles — the RG VITA and the more powerful RG VITA Pro. The main highlight of the new devices is their design, which clearly references the legendary PlayStation Vita.
Externally, the devices replicate the recognizable features of the Vita: a single glass panel, a widescreen display, and the characteristic cutouts for shoulder buttons. However, Anbernic's engineers have made a number of practical improvements. For instance, instead of touch zones on the back panel, full analog triggers (L2/R2) are placed there. Furthermore, the button layout follows the ABXY standard, not the symbols characteristic of Sony's products.
The technical specifications of the consoles are still kept secret. It is only known that the devices will receive a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 10W charging. Experts suggest that the base version, the RG VITA, will likely be equipped with a not-so-powerful processor — this will help keep the price at an accessible level. At the same time, the RG VITA Pro is expected to offer significantly higher performance.
Despite the external resemblance to the Vita, expecting comfortable emulation of games for that console is not yet advisable. The Vita3K solution for Android remains unstable and requires significant refinement. Most likely, the main purpose of the new devices will be emulation of older platforms (up to PSP) and running Android games.
With the release of the RG VITA and RG VITA Pro, Anbernic aims to strengthen its position in the segment of compact widescreen portable consoles. The new products will compete with devices from Retroid and AYN.
The company has not yet announced approximate release dates or pricing for the consoles. Fans of portable gaming will have to wait for additional information from the manufacturer.
