Classic Final Fantasy VII to Get a PC Re-release
Square Enix is preparing to release a new version of the original Final Fantasy VII on Steam. The re-release is said to provide an "improved gameplay experience" — specifics were not given.
After the release of the new version, the existing one will be renamed to Final Fantasy VII 2013 Edition. The company has revealed the following details about the upcoming re-release:
Version Availability
- After the update is released, you will no longer be able to purchase the 2013 Edition.
- Owners of the old version will retain access to it in their library.
- The new version will appear on Steam under the name Final Fantasy VII.
Access for Owners of the Old Version
- Everyone who already owns the 2013 Edition is entitled to a free upgrade.
- Both editions will be available in the Steam library.
Save Files
- Save files from different versions will be incompatible:
- Save files from the 2013 Edition will only work in the 2013 Edition.
- Save files from the new version will only work in the new version.
