Microsoft Boss Pins Huge Hopes on Reviving Xbox's Greatness
Phil Spencer has left his position as head of Microsoft Gaming after nearly 40 years with the company. His departure was confirmed by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who also introduced the new head of the gaming division — Asha Sharma, who previously held positions at Meta and Instacart.
Nadella emphasized that gaming remains at the center of Microsoft's strategy and thanked Spencer for the acquisitions of Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax, and Minecraft. Matt Booty has been promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer, and he will report directly to Sharma.
In her address, the new head of Xbox outlined three priorities: supporting studios and creating great games, returning to Xbox's roots, and developing without "soulless AI junk."
Spencer called his time at the company "the privilege of a lifetime" and expressed confidence in his successor.
