The authors of monster fantasy will prove that their game is not a copy of monster hunter

After a wave of comparisons to Monster Hunter, Jotoyo — the studio behind Monster Fantasy — stepped in to respond. The team admitted the combat showcases may have given a misleading impression; they pointed out that fighting was highlighted in the demos, but stressed it’s just one slice of the whole experience (i.e., hunting won’t define the entire game).

Instead, the devs say the project leans on interacting systems: village-building, forming relationships with residents, and other gameplay loops meant to shape a fantasy milieu — e.g., players will construct settlements and manage ties with NPCs. They also promised to take feedback on board and to present those distinctive elements more clearly next time.

Whether a change in trailers will shift the initial knee-jerk comparisons, though, is another matter.
