The Ashes of Creation Team Apologizes for Bugs, RMT, and Shortcomings, and Postpones the Next Developer Stream

The Ashes of Creation team published a letter to the community outlining their work on addressing a number of serious issues that arose after the game's launch in Steam Early Access, from problems with RMT and bots to unfinished game systems and elements, as well as performance issues. Along with the letter, the date for the next developer stream has also been postponed.

Ashes of Creation is an alpha version, an Early Access build. While the definition of what Early Access means and can look like today is rather fluid, Intrepid consistently emphasizes that there is still a long way to go before completion, and development continues.

The developers addressed widespread dissatisfaction regarding many issues, some of which pertain to different aspects of the game. Performance problems and bugs, including crashes and issues that break the gameplay, are a very different matter from PvP and the feeling of incompleteness and inconsistency in the corruption system. Other gameplay-related problems, such as imbalance between risk and reward, are also a concern.

Cheating and RMT (real-money trading of in-game currency) have drawn a lot of attention, and this is not surprising as these are serious, destabilizing issues that can drive players away and are also connected to problems with caravans and boxes.

The team acknowledges that many of these problems are interconnected, and their simultaneous presence affecting various parts of the community is frustrating. Nevertheless, the developers also ask for understanding, given that game development is not a linear process, many changes occur, some foundations are reworked, and sometimes things are canceled altogether.

Intrepid plans to hold the next livestream on February 13. The stream was supposed to take place today, but the two-week delay is related to the developers needing to be able to clearly and thoroughly discuss the next steps.
