During a broadcast for the 30th anniversary of Resident Evil, Capcom said the arcade take on Resident Evil 2 (2019).html) is headed to arcades in the USA, Europe, and Japan this year. It’s already been playable in test runs in a few spots; more “tests” are scheduled in Japan mid-month. Small-scale trials first, wider availability later — that’s the plan, apparently.
The Resident Evil 2 Arcade leans into the rail-shooter vibe — think of The House of the Dead as a rough reference point. Capcom has dabbled with light-gun formats before and seems to be revisiting that lane now, though this isn’t a straight remake of the original arcade formula.
Hardware-wise, the cabinet tries to sell the illusion. Realistic gun controllers (recoil is simulated), a 3D sound setup, and a vibration platform all work together to make the short sessions feel punchier; esp. during tense encounters the feedback is noticeable. Trailer footage suggests the visuals closely match the remake’s fidelity, at least on first glance.
No official word on a home-port yet, so for now it looks like an arcade-only affair.
