Marathon Shooter to Include New Player Accommodations
Studio Bungie has shared new details about the Marathon shooter in an interview with the República DG portal. Game Director Joe Ziegler discussed the entry threshold for newcomers.
The developers have ensured that new players can smoothly integrate into the game. A gentle mode is provided for them. The first matches take place on a special version of the map where the number of enemy squads is reduced. This allows players to get acquainted with the mechanics without excessive pressure.
The narrative component is delivered through text files, audio recordings, and environmental details—there will be no traditional single-player campaign in the game. However, the PvE element is planned to be actively developed based on community feedback.
Additionally, a system of "sponsor kits"—sets of free equipment—has been implemented. Thanks to these, newcomers can participate in raids without the risk of losing valuable loot.
Matchmaking also takes player experience into account: the system partially separates veterans and newcomers to make the initial matches less stressful for those just getting to know the game.
Marathon's release is scheduled for March 5. Prior to the official launch, an open beta test will take place: players will be able to try the game from February 26 to March 2 on all announced platforms. This will provide an opportunity to evaluate the key mechanics, share impressions, and help the developers polish the project before the final release.
