Counter-Strike 2 May Add Shortdust Map
Cover: Steam Workshop
According to new insider information, the Shortdust map may return to Counter-Strike 2. The location was removed from the game back in 2023. Hints of other maps in development were also found in the project files.
Dataminer:
"...newly generated textures and some models were also spotted in the game files, which surprisingly point us to the Shortdust map for Wingman..."
Recall that the map was removed from the active CS:GO pool (and not officially carried over to the release version of CS2) mainly due to the developers shifting focus to new modes, its low popularity in the Wingman/Demolition mode, and the need for a rework for the Source 2 engine.
It was a scaled-down version of Dust II.
Insiders also discovered resources for other locations, including Cobblestone, for which the structure for light glares and shadows is already prepared.
The full list of future maps is:
"...Alpine, Cobblestone, Sanctum, Stronghold, Poseidon, Warden."
Additionally, Maxim "Gabe Follower" Poletaev mentioned the possible return of Cache to the competitive mode. According to his information, Valve is aiming for a fundamental rework of the location, which is why its release is expected closer to the end of the year.
And on the night of January 22, Valve released an update for CS2, replacing Train with Anubis in the active pool, and confirmed that work on Cache has begun.
Earlier on social media, the developers hinted at a release date by replacing the zero in the number "2026" with a radiation symbol.
