Stormgate received the largest patch with new units and a "2v2" mode
Frost Giant Studios pushed a substantial update for the RTS Stormgate. It was shaped over roughly six months with the community: devs ran public tests and adjusted balance, mechanics, and visuals based on player feedback.
Key innovations: four new units for the Infernals and Celestials; a full-fledged ranked "2v2" mode; and more than 40 user-created maps for various formats.
The resource-gathering loop has been tightened and army controls feel snappier — e.g., selection and formation responses are noticeably quicker. Visual FX and sound were trimmed so critical battle cues aren’t buried in noise.
The studio also unlocked full access to map, data, and trigger editors, so any player can craft modes and arcade scenarios. That level of tooling makes community-driven content and modding far more feasible; it could spawn new playstyles or small, self-sustaining scenes.
Stormgate entered early access in July 2024 and reached full release in August 2025. Steam reviews remain mixed, and while the devs say they’ll keep iterating with players, this feels like ongoing work rather than a finished story.
