Steam refunded a Battlefield 6 player with 470 hours of gameplay

It looks like Steam bent its usual refund rules for a dissatisfied player of Battlefield 6: a Reddit poster says he received a full $109.24 refund for the Phantom Edition despite logging roughly 470 hours in the game.

The user, known as ExplorEverythingOnce, shared that this was unprecedented in his 22 years on Steam — he’d only asked for one refund before. His complaint? Rush vanished from the quick match rotation after update 1.4.1.5, and no separate notice was sent out. The mode still exists inside Portal, so many players only learned of the change later on.

To make his case, he pointed Steam Support to the official mode list and an EA statement confirming the adjustments. He told them Electronic Arts pulled several modes nearly a year after launch without advance warning. The support rep apparently agreed that the outcome felt off to the player, and approved a full refund for the copy bought on release day.

Rush has long been tied to the Battlefield identity since Bad Company (2008), which helps explain why its sudden disappearance triggered vocal disappointment, especially among those who favor that format.

Remember: Steam’s refund policy normally allows returns if the purchase was made less than 14 days ago and playtime is under two hours (i.e., <14 days and <2 hrs). Still, Valve has made exceptions before — e.g., in 2024 they broadly approved refunds for Helldivers 2 after Sony required the PC version to be tied to a PSN account.
