Star Citizen Alpha 4.7 — crafting and "rocky adventures" come to the game
Developers at Cloud Imperium Games have leaked what to expect in Alpha 4.7 for Star Citizen, the update titled Welcome to the Rock. The headline feature is a crafting system that’s been on players’ wishlists for a long time — and it might actually alter how you kit out and keep a crew alive in the void. Instead of only buying pre-built gear, folks will be able to fashion consumables and tools (weapon mods are in the mix, too) from materials gathered while exploring or pulled up by industrial mining — resources, e.g., salvage from derelicts or raw ore from asteroid fields.
Inventory gets a face-lift as well: it’ll be more visual, less list-of-strings, and meant to feel natural when you reach for an item. There’s an emphasis on hands-on interaction; assembly isn’t just a menu option but a physical process that needs specific workbenches placed around big stations and on certain outfitted ships. For players who enjoy tinkering or managing logistics — DIY types, i.e., engineers and suppliers — that’s a big deal, though it could also complicate life for groups that prefer quick resupply.
