Sony to Shut Down Bluepoint Games — Creators of Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls Remakes
Journalist Bloomberg Jason Schreier reports that Sony is disbanding the Bluepoint Games team. The collective is known for successful game re-releases, including Shadow of the Colossus for PS4 and Demon’s Souls for PS5.
As stated by a PlayStation representative in an official comment, about 70 Bluepoint employees will lose their jobs. The decision to close was made "following a recent analysis of operations." The studio will cease to exist in March.
Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team, and its technical expertise has delivered amazing experiences to the PlayStation community. We thank them for their enthusiasm, creativity, and craftsmanship. From Sony's comment
It is worth recalling that Bluepoint was founded in 2006 in Austin, Texas. In addition to the aforementioned re-releases, the company produced remasters of two God of War titles for PS3 and three Uncharted games for PS4.
In 2021, shortly after the successful release of the updated Demon’s Souls, Sony acquired the studio and appointed it as a co-developer for God of War Ragnarök. Subsequently, Bluepoint began work on a service-based game, which never made it to announcement — in January 2025, PlayStation canceled the project.
