Sony Will Release Fewer PC Games

Media sources claim Sony is dialing back the active rollout of major single-player PlayStation Studios exclusives for personal computers. Bloomberg's Jason Schreier first flagged the change; reputable insider NateTheHate later reinforced the point.

Schreier says the info comes from hard data rather than idle rumor and promises a longer piece soon. NateTheHate adds that the pivot was decided last year — the plan, apparently, is to reduce the number of PlayStation single-player titles ported to PC. Some games will still arrive on computers, e.g., those already well into the porting pipeline, but the company no longer treats PC releases as a primary outlet.

A few financial notes help explain why. Sony’s PC ports reportedly accounted for about 2% of gaming revenue in the last fiscal year (FY), so the commercial upside looks limited. Around the same time, the firm quietly removed the metric "Gaming revenue outside of PlayStation consoles" from its strategic indicator list, which many read as a nudge back toward consoles.

That said, PC storefronts such as Steam and Epic Games Store aren’t being abandoned. Expect new releases mainly in the form of service games — live-service, update-driven titles that will often launch simultaneously on PS5 and PC. If you were hoping for every single-player hit on PC, brace for disappointment; if you like ongoing, cross-platform services, the pipeline will still deliver.
