Sony wants PlayStation to be more like PC in terms of diversity
The leadership of Sony Interactive Entertainment — CEO Hideaki Nishino included — spoke directly about players who have migrated to PC at a June investor meeting. They said PlayStation no longer wants to be tied to the "living room" image. To loosen that association, Sony is branching into peripherals — e.g., monitors and acoustic systems (speakers, headsets), etc. — responding to growing interest in personal-monitor setups, esp. from former console-first users. The company pitches the next platform as more than a mere PC alternative, promising a "seamless" experience across devices and locations. In practical terms this means building an ecosystem for comfortable play beyond the couch, mixing new tech with flexible use cases (i.e., mobile, multi-room, remote play). Whether that will change how people actually play or just add more branded hardware remains to be seen; for now, Sony is signaling it will follow players wherever they go.
