Since it didn't work out with games, it's time to attack Sony: Stop Killing Games joined a major lawsuit over disk cancellations
A large lawsuit against the Japanese platform holder has attracted new, high-profile participants. A Dutch human-rights initiative joined forces with the people behind Stop Killing Games and the DoesItPlay portal. The plaintiffs say the company enforces a tight monopoly on digital distribution; in their view the closed console ecosystem prevents players from buying content on third-party platforms (e.g., other online stores or retailers).
Activists are particularly worried about the announced end of physical releases by 2028. A full shift to “digital,” they argue, would kill the used-disc market — the only real alternative to the official store — where games sell at, on avg., about 47% above what market competition would suggest.
Until recently, defenders of player rights mostly targeted server shutdowns that make purchased titles unusable. Now the campaign has widened to tackle price-setting itself. Organization reps have urged Dutch users to back the litigation; they say lawsuits are the only practical tool left to reclaim ownership of bought games.
What do you think, can this lawsuit force console manufacturers to change their pricing policies and open their ecosystems?
