Shooter Announced Where You Pay for Progress with Frame Rate — FPS Quest

An unusual shooter FPS Quest by studio Farlight Games Industries is coming soon to Steam. Its key mechanic overturns conventional genre notions: your health in the game is directly linked to the frame rate (FPS). Each hit reduces FPS, making the visuals increasingly choppy, and when it drops critically, the game turns into a slideshow, leading to defeat.

To survive, players will have to employ various tricks. You can "optimize" the game like a weak PC—simplifying textures, disabling shadows, or even removing level elements (columns, doors, floors) to increase FPS. However, this makes procedurally generated locations more dangerous and can completely disorient you.

A more effective way is to use in-game cheats, such as slowing down time. Various factions and the main antagonist, Dungeon Lord, a chaotic AI interfering with level structures, will also offer assistance (or opposition).

Developers emphasize: there's no need to fear discomfort from low FPS—this "low-frequency" reality is merely a simulation, and the settings do not affect your hardware's actual performance. FPS Quest encourages experimenting with all available means to preserve both life and smooth visuals.
